Child Custody

One of the most difficult aspects of divorce for parents is the welfare of their minor children. When custody cases proceed to trial in Maryland, Courts apply the Best Interest of the Child standard to decide custody and visitation. Our attorneys aggressively advocate for our clients’ parental rights and wishes to assist parents in obtaining the custody schedule they desire. We understand that every case is unique and we take the time to inform our clients of their legal rights and options.  No two cases are exactly alike. We tailor our strategy to our individual clients.

In Maryland, legal custody (the right to make important decisions for a child) can be Joint Legal Custody (shared decision-making by both parents) or Sole Legal Custody (one parent makes important decisions for a child).

In Maryland, Physical Custody can be shared between parents or one parent can have primary physical custody.  There is no one-size-fits-all physical custody and access schedule.  At Alman & Alman, LLC, we work closely with our clients to pursue the custody and access orders they seek.

Even after a Court issues an Order determining legal and physical custody, such order is subject to modification upon a showing of a Material Change of Circumstance. At Alman & Alman, LLC, we regularly represent clients in cases involving the modification of custody.
